How an U:P event runs

Interviews

Each founder takes the stage with just one slide. A veteran business journalist sits with them for a fireside-style conversation to surface founder DNA, resilience, and decision- making. Eight founders cycle through over roughly two hours.

Cocktail hour

After the interviews, founders and members mingle. This is where most of the actual relationship-building happens — members compare notes, ask founders direct questions, and start the conversations that lead to investments.

The follow-up week

Members who want to go deeper get diligence calls with founders, access to data rooms, and the full materials they need to make informed decisions. Investments are made directly from the member into the company. U:P takes no fee on the investment itself.

Who can attend?

Qualified investors and curated founders only, by invitation or application. Members apply through the form on this page. Founders are sourced and vetted before being invited to pitch.

Are there fees on investments?

No. Member investments are made directly with presenting companies. U:P does not charge carry, management fees, or take any cut of the investment itself.

How do pitches work?

Each founder participates in a 10-minute fireside interview with a working business journalist, followed by 5 minutes Each founder participates in a 10-minute fireside interview with a working business journalist, followed by 5 minutes of Q&A from the room. Eight founders cycle through over roughly two hours. A cocktail reception follows where members and founders continue the conversation directly.

What's the membership cost?

$2,500 a year, plus a $10,000 minimum annual commitment to invest in at least one company you meet through the program. Investments are at your discretion — directly into companies you choose, or into a matched fund Michael Loeb commits capital alongside.

Is there a livestream option for members who can't attend in person?

Yes. Pitch nights are streamed live for members. Recordings are available afterward. The follow-up week — diligence calls, data room access — runs in parallel for all members regardless of attendance.
